Steerable Instruments
Target of this project scope is the usage of micro and precision engineering experience for the creation of novel concepts for active instruments and their realization into related working samples. Developed prototypes for new active surgical tools are based on application of novel materials and components like shape memory alloys or multilayer piezoelectric materials as actuators in confined environment of instruments, devices and systems for minimally invasive procedures like NOTES.
The functionality will range from grasping, cutting and shaping up to other advanced tissue interactions a surgeon has to perform during surgical interventions within minimal invasive surgical methods.
Advanced steerable surgical tools
Minimally invasive tools are still to inflexible. We develop new means for selective control of tool tips to reach hard accessible positions inside the human body.
