Advanced concepts for medical robot systems

The ability to transfer „information into action“ makes medical robots to a
key component of new image-guided surgical technology.

Research in ACMIT targets on a set of MR-compatible robot modules and a suitable control system to complete the existing application scenarios for image-guided tool placement.

Furthermore, concepts and prototypes for tool-tracking in real-time images
and advanced interaction methods – like „hands-on“ co-manipulation, shared control, or adaptive autonomy – aims to close the gap between the robot as pure execution unit and the human as decision maker.

Such new setups as well as investigation of cognitive components for application in medical procedures („robot cognition through environment interpretation“ and „robot cognition through user interpretation“) will open
new use cases for medical robotics.
